Mettmen Hike

Mettmen 1608m – Matzlenfurggelen 1913 m – Kärpfstäfeli – Mettmen
3 hrs walk

We planned to hike to the beautiful Ängisee and then to Leglerhütte which I visited one year ago. But when we stood at the first pass at 1900m,  the fierce and temperamental wind was blowing, and the menacing clouds were approaching from the south. So we decided to do a shorter hike from Mettmen to Kärpfstäfeli and just enjoy the autumn atmosphere and the dramatic scenery of the Glärnish mountain range.

Morteratsch Hike & Boval Hütte

Morteratsch 1896m – Boval Hütte 2495m – Morteratsch 1896m
11 km / Ascent & descent 600 m / 3hrs 45 min

The route from Morteratsch to Boval Hütte is part of the Bernina Trek. One month ago I did five sections of the Trek  but two more sections remained to be done. I was happy that Philippe joined me for the Boval Hütte section on a sunny autumn day.

It still amazes me that in Switzerland – at many places, one can jump off a train and see glaciers or parts of it! Continue reading “Morteratsch Hike & Boval Hütte”

Jöriseen – Hidden Jewels in Graubünden

Wägerhus 2207m – Jöriflüelafurgga 2725m – Jöriseen 2489m – Berghaus Vereina 1940m

11km / Ascent 570m / Descent 890m / 4hrs 10min

We have been talking about this hike for a couple of years now. I vaguely remembered the Vereina hut and its surroundings since we hiked around the area quite some time ago. Today was such a beautiful day with the blue sky. So off we went by train to Susch and then by bus to Wägerhus, the trailhead. Continue reading “Jöriseen – Hidden Jewels in Graubünden”

Lake Bedwell Hike

5h, 9km, 600m elevation change

We debated which hike to do in the Strathcona Provincial Park. There is a 9-hour and 1200m-uphill hike, a 7-hour hike to alpine lakes with only 600m up or a 9-hour stroll along Elk River and an alpine lake, just to name a few… all the hikes are rather strenuous, long and steep. I’m in love with hiking and used to long tours but nevertheless, 7 to 9 hours is rather long and make Philippe, well, let’s say, hesitant.

Myra Falls Hike

Lower Myra Falls

Today’s first hike spot in the Strathcona Provincial Park is Lower Myra Falls. We had to drive from the lodge to the end of Buttel Lake and around it. We saw hardly any other car on the road but when we arrived at the trailhead, surprise, we were not alone! Continue reading “Myra Falls Hike”
